The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge looms over an area of extensive industrial development. After this Station, the Railway veers inland as it heads south to Tottenville. A town home development across Bay Street from the tracks, features backyards, the iconic symbol of life on Staten Island.
At the foot of Vanderbilt Avenue, two blocks north of the Station,
16-year old Cornelius Vanderbilt established ferry service to Manhattan in 1810. Nearby is
the huge Bayley Seaton Hospital, the original headquarters of the National Institutes of Health.
